In response to increasing and persistent thefts in and around the Jacksonville area, targeting certain Hyundai vehicles without push-button ignitions and immobilizing anti-theft devices, Hyundai has introduced a free anti-theft software upgrade for affected customers. Now available at Key Hyundai- The Jacksonville Hyundai Recall Center.

The anti-theft software upgrade will be available for various models through the year’s end. Nearly 4 million vehicles are now eligible to receive this free software upgrade.

Important Information:
If your vehicle is equipped with a push-button ignition and intelligent key, your vehicle is already equipped with an engine immobilizer, and the software upgrade is unnecessary.

Suppose your vehicle has an immobilizer lamp on the instrument Cluster when the ignition is turned on. In that case, your vehicle is already equipped with an engine immobilizer, and a software upgrade is unnecessary.
Or

If your vehicle was produced after November 2021, engine immobilizers are standard equipment, and your vehicle will not need this software upgrade.

Q: How Will It Work?
A: The software upgrade modifies specific vehicle control modules on Hyundai vehicles equipped with standard “turn-key-to-start” ignition systems.  As a result, locking the doors with the key fob will set the factory alarm and activate an “ignition kill” feature so the vehicle cannot be started when subjected to the popularized social media theft mode.
